Job Description
The Job:
The Associate/Producer (Current Affairs) is responsible for the content and production of Current Affairs Programmes, segments, info capsules, programmes, headlines, news highlights, tickers and news presented under the Astro AWANI brand and all other related platforms.
The key responsibility areas:
- Meeting set targets in support of the channel’s KPIs (audience share, slot viewership, revenues, awareness, budget)
- Finalising rundowns for programmes and other formats and obtaining the approval of the Senior Producer when deemed important/crucial or in doubt
- Ensure that all Current Affairs formats are:
- Highly relevant and appealing to the audience
- Thoroughly filtered as a final checkpoint prior to the broadcast, and obtaining the approval of the superiors when deemed important/crucial or in doubt
- Fully compliant with the Law, licensing rights, regulatory requirements and take into consideration the sensibilities and sensitivities of the viewers
- Packaged according to the stipulated format and branding guidelines, has its own strong and unique selling points
- Delivered in high quality in a timely manner, as scheduled
- Guests for phoners and on set are coordinated for all produced FORMATS
- Final production i.e. planning of resources, approving rundowns, assigning tasks to team members, editing and re-editing scripts and materials (graphics and VT), managing production and operational processes and ensuring timely broadcast on the channel
- Support activities aimed at increasing viewership, awareness, revenues and establishing strong branding for the channel or the Astro platform.
Job Requirement
Requirements:
- University Degree
- At least 3 years journalism and production experience in news & current affairs, including in a LIVE environment
- Good news sense
- Experience in media, familiarity with production and technical system.
- Familiarity with news production
- Network of relevant contacts
- Experience in managing a team of 3-8 people, or a very senior reporter who is ready to make the transition to News Editor
- Managed end-to-end TV news production, or experience as a News Editor in mainstream print media
- Network of high level contacts
- Good knowledge of the broadcast & multimedia industry
- Good understanding of production technology/equipment
- Strong language & writing skills, fully bi-lingual in English & Malay, able to translate fluently &quickly
- Good interpersonal & motivational skills
- Good communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with Bloomberg and/or Reuters wires and the relevant machines/equipment
- Able to communicate in any other key international languages
- Potential as a lead anchor
- Good presentation skills
- Potential to be developed into a leader
- Proficient with Avid, iNews, iSis
